CHLOE KIM

Chloe Kim is arguably the greatest female snowboarder of all time, and could conceivably compete at several more Winter Olympics. She first burst into the public consciousness aged just 14 at the 2015 X Games, when she became the youngest ever winner of a gold medal, taking the prize in the superpipe ahead of Kelly Clark. The records continued to tumble when she won X Games gold again the next year, and in the U.S.  Snowboarding Grand Prix, she became the first female boarder to land back-to-back 1080s.

BIOGRAFIA

Chloe Kim was born on April 23, 2000, in Long Beach, California and raised in nearby Torrance. Her parents are from South Korea. Chloe Kim began snowboarding at age four at the southern California resort of Mountain High. She started competing at age six as a member of Team Mountain High. She spent third and fourth-grade studying and training in Geneva, Switzerland where her aunt lived, before returning to California and training at Mammoth Mountain. She is fluent in French, English, and Korean. Her father quit his job to drive her to the mountains and also to be able to travel with her when she competes. Chloe Kim went to Dana Middle School, and she joined the U.S. Snowboarding Team in 2013. Chloe Kim joined a developmental team and continued to progress in her sport. In 2014 she made her debut at the X Games, one of the main venues for international snowboarding competition. Though she was only 13 years old at the time, she won a silver medal in the superpipe competition. Kim was the youngest competitor ever to garner a medal at the X Games. A rule that Olympic participants in snowboarding must be at least 15 years of age prevented Chloe Kim from competing at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Over the next several years, however, she established herself as a major force in the sport. In 2015 she won the superpipe title at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado. The following year she captured gold in the superpipe at both the X Games in Aspen and the X Games in Oslo. She also won gold medals in the halfpipe and slopestyle at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. Kim finished atop the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) World Cup halfpipe rankings for the 2017 season. Chloe Kim again won the X Games superpipe title in Aspen in January 2018. A month later, she entered the 2018 Winter Olympics in P’yŏngch’ang (Pyeongchang), South Korea, as the strong favourite to win the halfpipe gold medal. She successfully defended her X Games superpipe title in Aspen in 2019. Competing again in Aspen in 2021, she claimed her sixth X Games superpipe gold medal. At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Chloe Kim continued her dominance. She became a two-time Olympian when she competed at her second consecutive Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. She entered the women's halfpipe event. She successfully defended her Olympic title, thus becoming the first female snowboarder to win back-to-back gold medals at the snowboard half pipe event.
